The Pioneer Modern Traction Group is an association of Model Engineers whose interest covers locomotives and rolling stock built up to 1969.
The informal Group was formed in October 2010 with the aim of promoting the design, construction and operation of standard gauge modern traction running on 7¼" gauge track. We provide an opportunity for those interested in modelling this era to make contact with like minded engineers, and through the Group's website to encourage one another in our shared interest.
The London, Midland and Scottish Railway in collaboration with English Electric introduced diesel shunting locomotives in 1931, and later designed and built the pioneering main line diesel electric locomotive 10000 at Derby Works in 1947. The second of the LMS Twins 10001 was completed in 1948 under the new British Railways. Thus began the modern traction era in Britain.

Since this Group's inception in 2010 'Social Media' in it's many formats has largely overtaken traditional websites as the main communication method for a group such as ours. While the group, and its' members, have not lost interest in the subject, we must acknowledge that times have changed. In recognition of this shift to other media our website will no longer be regularly updated. Our members (me included) have also migrated to social media, mainly for its two way and real time communication features.
However - The Group continues in spirit.
The website will remain as a published work, the site still has a value for the historical content of the pioneering years of British Railways and the models which we built to remember this era.
We continue to model in 7¼" gauge, and the models included on this site can be seen at railways around the UK. Look out for us and do introduce yourselves.
I will leave the contact page active and will answer any e-mails as appropriate.
Many thanks,
Anthony
